There are foods that contain lots of additives like nitrates that you usually take from diet sodas for instance. Limit the consumption during pregnancy so that no chemicals should pass through the placenta and harm your baby.</p>
<p>Moderation is probably the best way to describe pregnancy nutrition at its best. Even if you have some of your favorite sweets once in a while or a diet soda, you should not use them as part of your daily diet. The fetus or the baby is very fragile and lots of food toxins can prevent the proper growth in the womb.</p>

By using a variety of foods only can you meet the nutritional needs of a growing child, and also create the premises for good eating habits to develop later in life. <p>The food pyramid also shows the number of servings you should have from each food category per day. Normally, the age and the level of activity also have a word to say in the portion size, but the body weight matters a lot here too. Fats for instance make 30% of your diet, and they should primarily come from dairy products, meat and eggs. There are also unsaturated fats that are a lot healthier, and this is the case with olive oil, nuts and peanuts.</p>
<p>Another group of foods in the food pyramids are sugars that come with the highest level of calories and the lowest nutritional value. You should consume honey more than sugar and avoid jellies, jams and soft drinks in excess. Balance is what matters most here.</p>

<p><em></em>Nutrition is a basic element of health and should not be overlooked during disease. Some well renowned practitioners state that every disease is a result of improper dietary habits.</p>
<p>Because of the rapid increase in cost of medical care and desire to live longer and healthier, higher and higher percentage of the population is becoming concerned about nutrition and maintaining their health. Without a doubt, nutrition plays a big role here.</p>
<p>Proper nutrition and regular physical activity can help us avoid taking drugs or even have surgeries to correct the results of fast-paced, fast-food consuming, multitasking life with no exercising.</p>
<p>Healthy dietary habits (the way we eat) are the foundation of healthy nutrition. Choosing nourishing (whole, unprocessed, without chemical additives) foods alone is not enough.</p>
<p>Simpler meals (with specific combination of foods for better digestion and absorption) are becoming the top-choice of many, who are oriented toward optimum health.</p>
<p>However, the factors that are often overlooked, but just as important in healthy nutrition are:</p>
<p>
<ul>
<li>the way our food is prepared and served, </li>
<li>the time of the day when we eat, </li>
<li>the setting in which we eat and </li>
<li>how we feel when we eat.</li>
</ul>
<p>The way of the Western world is that poor nutrition is readily available everywhere, any time and cheap. Farmers&#8217; markets and health-food stores, on the other hand, are harder to find in some areas. In the end, all comes down to common sense. Our body is sending us messages all the time and if we would only learn to listen to these messages again, there would be no need whatsoever for trying out all the countless diets which don&#8217;t work. So, even though our biofeedback is a perfect messenger, we tend to override the signals and follow heavily advertised addictions. This kind of behavior affects the way we feel now, as well as over the long term. Being overweight is mostly the result of poor nutrition and low activity level. The only way to lose extra pounds permanently is to change the lifestyle. Choosing less fattening foods is a good choice, but not sufficient. Because certain emotions and fear of creativity and change also promote unhealthy (over)eating habits, we need to choose personal growth (over addictions), decide what we want and stay focused on our goals.</p>
<p>Dietary habits and eating patterns from our family&#8217;s traditions affect us all in our young age. As adults, however, we are making our own choices and decisions and we should keep asking ourselves <em>why </em>we&#8217;re doing the things we do &#8211; and keep the answers in our sight.</p>
<p>When body is in a detoxification stage (like during cold or flu when bowels, secreting cells and mucous membranes become more active), it is simply trying to eliminate the buildup of toxins we consumed throughout the longer period of time. Eating lightly (especially fruits and vegetables) and drinking more liquids (clean, fresh water and herbal teas), supports the cleansing process.</p>
<p>Our dietary needs are changing with the seasons of the year as well as with our age. Growing children need richer diet to construct and expand tissues. When we stop growing physically, we only need to maintain our body, which calls for lighter, fiber and nutrient rich natural foods. As we age even more and our metabolism slows down, our food requirements decrease further.</p>
<p>Just like fitness activity is equally important at any age, so is the low level of stress. While under stress, our body may not digest and absorb the necessary nutrients so well and sometimes the additional supplements are needed.</p>
<p>When we lose our appetite in response to the stressful situation, that is a very helpful reaction. As mentioned before, in stressful times our body does not process foods so well. Not eating will allow us to &#8220;hear&#8221; better what the only body we have for this life, is signaling us, and explore our feelings.</p>
<p>Human body needs food as a source of energy and as a fuel to maintain life. It is quite obvious that nutrition plays a major role in health as well as sickness. Fortunately, there are more and more practitioners available who are nutritionists. There are also more and more choices of wholesome, nutritious foods offered online and in the brick-and-mortar stores. Information is plentiful. But it&#8217;s up to us to decide to do and choose what&#8217;s best.</p>

<p>Protein must be a part of a healthy diet for a simple reason: it is essential for life. Every single cell in the human body &#8212; including bones, blood, skin, chemicals, and enzymes &#8212; depend on protein for effective operation.[i]</p>
<p>Yet while Americans are more health-conscious than ever before, the national health dialogue continues to be dominated by a cynical theme: malnutrition. Many Americans are suffering the ill-health effects of a diet that is too high in saturated fat[ii], carbohydrates[iii], and calories[iv], while severely lacking in protein.</p>
<p>This wave of malnutrition is not merely disconcerting to medical professionals. It is alarming. The situation has become so desperate that obesity will soon become the nation’s leading cause of preventable death.[v]</p>
<p>America’s nutritional dilemma is not, however, limited to obesity concerns. Malnutrition in non-overweight individuals is nearing epidemic levels. Millions of “fit looking” individuals subsist on a diet that is far too rich in carbohydrates a problem that has been enhanced for generations by the US FDA’s encouragement of refined carbohydrates as part of a balanced diet. We now know, however, that many of these refined carbohydrates are metabolically similar to candies and sweets. Added to this problem is that saturated fats continue to dominate many meals, particular those served in fast food restaurants.</p>
<p>Essentially then, the problem in America can be summed up as this: eat right or prepare to suffer shape up, or die a preventable death.</p>
<p>The first step in balancing America’s eating practices is to reintroduce the importance of protein. This neglect is all the more stunning given that, of the three major macronutrients – carbohydrates, fats, and proteins – proteins are the only essential component that human beings cannot live without.</p>
<p>Reintroducing protein as part of a healthy diet is made more difficult because many consumers do not know where to find a healthy source of protein. Unfortunately, most nutritional supplement sources bring with them a range unwanted carbohydrates, facts, and calories. Powerbar™, the “granddaddy” of nutritional supplements launched in 1987, has been rejected as an option by some consumers and health professionals because of high carbohydrate levels (45 grams), and low protein levels (10 grams) in each serving. Furthermore, dieters in particular have criticized Powerbar’s™ high 230 calories per bar –-more than 1/10th of the recommended caloric intake.</p>
<p>Other attempts to meet consumer demand for a high protein, low carbohydrate, low fat, and low calorie nutritional supplement have been supplied by products such as the York Bar™, the Blast Bar™, and the Ironman Bar™, respectively. <p>While these products have certainly helped more people “think” about eating healthier, they have not, respectively, met the rigorous consumer expectation for a low carbohydrate, low calorie, low fat, and high protein nutritional supplement.</p>

<p>Why do we need nutritional supplements? Many of us, in today&#8217;s hurried lifestyle, do not eat a well balanced diet. Because of this we need nutritional supplements to boost our daily diet. We have seen numerous commercials for overweight bodies. When was the last time you saw a commercial about getting nutritional supplements, not just broad spectrum vitamins? We have become a nation of over fed and under nourished citizens.</p>
<p>Eating the right foods is great&#8230;BUT. The nutritional value of our food has diminished considerably in the last 50 or so years and this makes it necessary to take nutritional supplements. Our diet contains too much refined food and not enough pre-processed food. Unless you grow your own fruits and vegetables you will need to get your nutrients from another source, like nutritional supplements.</p>
<p>Nutritional supplements fill the holes that processed foods leave in our diet. Not having enough vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants,</p>
<p>
<ul>
<li>Speeds the aging process</li>
<p>
<li>Contributes to poor cardiovascular health</li>
<p>
<li>Helps cause poor eyesight</li>
<p>
<li>Produces a weakened immune system.</li>
</ul>
<p>Many factors cause degeneration of your body&#8217;s cells. Some factors are</p>

<li>Cigarette smoke</li>
<p>

Combining a good diet with nutritional supplements and regular exercise will provide us with the basics to fuel our bodies. Adding nutritional supplements and exercise to our busy lives will give us more energy. The use of nutritional supplements can also slow the aging process.</p>
<p>For the past 5 years or so we have heard much about antioxidants and free radicals, and for a good reason. If the free radicals in our systems are not neutralized they will run rampant in our bodies. The free radicals will damage our bodies at the cellular level. Here is where nutritional supplements can help. This damage over time will escalate and eventually lead to the acceleration of the aging process. The aging process usually manifests itself as heart disease, cancer, or osteoporosis. Diets alone do not supply enough antioxidants to combat this process. That is why your nutritional supplement must contain these antioxidants.</p>
<p>Health and nutrition experts say that the basis for good cardiovascular health is a nutrient rich diet, exercise, watching your cholesterol level, and monitoring your blood pressure. The cholesterol and blood pressure levels should be periodically checked by your health provider. Nutritional supplements added to your diet can help improve these factors. Your nutritional supplements should contain a garlic extract (unless you are a garlic lover like me and eat it every day!). Garlic has been shown to be of great benefit in decreasing cardiovascular disease.</p>
<p>Nearly all eye damage and loss of vision can be linked to poor nutrition! Poor nutrition can be directly linked to blood shot eyes, blurred vision, and nearly EVERY eye irritation we suffer. Nutritional supplements can help here too. To help reduce vision problems the nutritional supplements needs to contain Vitamins A, B, C, and E, in large enough quantities. Natural food sources for these are in dark green leafy vegetables (Kale and mustard greens, etc) orange fruits and vegetables (like carrots and oranges).</p>
<p>I have only listed just a few factors here to show how important nutritional supplements are. Nutritional supplements are normally a combination of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Taking one of the nutrients (like Vitamin C for example) and or one antioxidant and ignoring the rest isn&#8217;t good. The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants all work together to promote a healthy body.</p>
<p>Get a list of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from your health care provider. Armed with this information read the labels of the nutritional supplements that you are considering (check several). Your health is too important to not check these. Get high quality nutritional supplements and you are on your way to a healthier life!</p>
